How we work

Counselling Conversations for Individuals

We would like to meet you for half an hour to see whether Counselling Conversations are right for you and to answer any questions you have. This first meeting is free. During it we will establish and agree together what you wish to work with. We will also look at and agree how often you need to come. This will be reviewed regularly with you as you progress. Usually we agree between four and six as the initial number of sessions. The last counselling conversation tends to come when you are able to move on in your life.

Counselling Conversations for Couples

Initially couples will meet with the their therapist to establish what they wish to work on together. Sometimes this may take more than one session, for example if one partner wants to stay together, while the other is seeking separation, time is needed to agree a joint agenda. Which in this case may mean agreeing to explore the possibility of a joint future together or accepting that separation is inevitable. Once this has been done an agreement will be made as to the number of sessions required, usually about six. After that a review will be made by the couple and the therapist as to whether extra sessions are require or not. Sometimes in Couples Counselling it is useful for their to be individual sessions as well as joint sessions. This is something a couples therapist will discuss with the couple if they think it would be useful for them.

Counselling Conversations for Parents and People caring for Children

We like to work flexibly and in agreement with people who care for children. To do this we offer, as with individuals and couples, an initial free half hour meeting to establish what you need help with and whether Counselling Conversations are right for you and the child or children being cared for. We will also look at whether there are other people involved with caring for the child that you would like to include in the conversation. Usually we would expect to agree an initial number of sessions, between four and six with further work agreed by us together. To find out more please contact Jenny.
